New Programs Starting at North Raleigh Gymnastics!
North Raleigh Martial Arts We are happy to announce that NRG will be beginning a Martial Arts program for the new Summer and Fall Schedule, being called North Raleigh Martial Arts. North Raleigh Martial Arts will teach Hapkido, which is considered a "soft" style of martial arts. Hapkido is not like a lot of the other Martial Arts styles. It is based more on the flow of energy and proper technique, rather than strength, power and meeting force with force as with other more aggressive forms. The program will be led by Ryan Isaac. Instructor Ryan currently works for the Wake County Sheriff's Department. He was enlisted into the US ARMY and was honorably discharged in 1995. In 2000, he continued his training in martial arts and obtained his Black Belt at The Raleigh Institute of Martial Arts (RIMA). Ryan continues his training with the Raleigh Institute and has taught Hapkido since 2004. Please contact us for pricing, schedules and registration information.
"Clean - Up" Clinics Does your child have everything except that "one skill" they need to move to the next level? Well, here is their answer! NRG is introducing a great new way to perform, polish and perfect some of the more difficult skills in our programs. Our new 55 minute, "Clean - Up Clinics" will be held once a month on Friday afternoons. We will be holding our first two clinics on Friday, April 24th starting at 5:00pm and 6:00pm. The 5:00pm clinic will focus on Pullovers and Back Hip Circles and the 6:00pm clinic will focus on Back Handsprings and Drills. Students of any skill level and that are at least in Kindergarten can enroll in one or both clinics. This great opportunity will be open for both members and nonmembers of NRG. Member prices are $10 per clinic per child and nonmember are $15 per clinic per child. This is a great and affordable way for your child to get some extra help mastering those "hard to get skills"? There will be limited room in these clinics so that we can give lots of one on one attention to your child. Please stop by our office to reserve your spot today. Spaces are available on a first come first serve basis.

Year End Show!
What is the Year End Show? During the last week of the session (June 8-12), your child(ren) will be performing in our Year End Show. This is essentially a gymnastic's version of a "dance recital". You may start to hear your child talking about the show and the teachers will start working routines for the Year End Show during April. We will open the gym up to parents, friends and family to watch your gymnast perform. We hope the you will be able to attend and watch what your children have learned and are eager to share with you.
As for our preschool program, we hold a Year End Show Off the last week of their session (June 1 - 5). We welcome parents and family to watch their child(ren) during their regular class time. At the end of class, we have a ceremony where they receive a certificate and a medal.
Don't forget the CAMERA!

NRG Announcements

- Check your child's feet before you leave the building. Do they have shoes or are they the right pair? You would be amazed at how many shoes we get in our lost and found as well as how many calls we get about having someone else's shoes.
- Please be aware of what time your child's class ends. This helps to make sure that we do not have children just wandering around waiting for parents. If you know that you are going to be late picking up your child, please give our office a call so that they can make sure that your child knows that you are on the way.
- Please do not let you children play with the leo racks. They are not strong enough to hold children that like to swing and play on them. We don't want the racks to fall on or hurt someone.

A Message from Ms. Gayle!
It has come to my attention that some parents feel they are not receiving communication from their child's instructor, concerning their child's progress in class. We have evolved this year from the traditional bi-yearly progress reports to our new puzzle program. We did this for several reasons. 1. The progress reports were a tedious, time consuming task for our staff. To adequately fill out the progress reports, classes took several weeks demonstrating skills so instructors could see each child perform a skill. We felt these weeks were wasted for instruction. The classes were not fun for the children or the teachers. 2. The progress reports listed lots of skills, many of which parents could not recognize or understand. Several of the skills were important skills, but not necessary for advancement. 3. The progress reports did not reflect our objective program. Here at NRG, we move a student to the next level as soon as they "master" the skills necessary for that level. Bi-yearly progress reports gave the impression that students did not move up until after distribution of progress reports.
The new puzzle program supports our objective program, and gives the students and parents specific goals for advancement. The skills on the puzzle are not the only skills that are being taught in class. Each class has a skill sheet that lists all the skills we want the students to know at each level. The instructors are trained to teach and spot each skill on the skills sheet. Puzzle pieces should not be given out until a student "masters" a skill. We are looking for consistency. A student needs to perform a skill successfully every time. This is important to prepare the students for the next level. I want the students to feel successful. Building self esteem and confidence in the student is just as important as building a strong gymnast.
I feel that we are truly blessed here at NRG because we have wonderful instructors. They do care about your children, their students. If you feel that you do not get enough feed back from your instructor about your child's progress, please leave them a message at the office to call you at home to discuss your child. The instructors only have 5 minutes between classes which makes it very difficult for them to talk with you at that time. Sometimes it is better to talk privately on the phone rather than in the lobby in front of "everybody". If you have not heard from your child's instructor this year, it is because they feel the class is going well and your student is doing well and not having any problems. It certainly is not because they do not care. Please let them know if you need to talk with them about your child's progress or any circumstance that effects your child, either here, at home, or at school. By working together, we can be the best we can be for your child and give them the best experience possible.
Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your children's lives. We recognize what an honor and privilege it is to work with them. We do not take that responsibility lightly.
